Donald Miralle

Donald Miralle

The Founding Member of Leucadia PhotoWorks, Donald Miralle saw a void not only for affordable studio space for photographers in North County San Diego but also a platform where local photographers could share their vision and foster new young talent. So in 2013 he launched LPW starting with a core group of six other talented photographers from various but complimentary backgrounds.

A SoCal native, Donald Miralle has a BA in Fine Arts at UCLA and has worked as a professional photographer for nearly two decades for clients like New York Times, Golf Digest, ESPN the Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Men’s Journal, Nike, Ironman, Outside, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Dicks Sporting Goods, Getty Images, Newsweek, and NFL Players Association. Donald has received over 40 international awards for his work including five World Press Photo Awards and has been named the Sports Photojournalist of the Year by both the National Press Photographers Association and Pictures of the Year International multiple times. He has also served on the contest jury for the Best of Photojournalism, Swedish Pictures of the Year, and the Wisconsin and Utah Press Photographers Associations Contests. Donald’s work has been featured in magazines including Photo District News, British Journal of Photography, The Holland Times, Top Magazine in Brazil and on TV shows including ESPN and the ‘Today Show‘. Donald has served as a keynote speaker at many events including the PDN PhotoPlus Expo, Great White North Workshop, and is active with the education of photojournalism at colleges and workshops including Brooks Institute, Art Center College of Design, and Sportsshooter Academies. In 2013, Italian Publisher Dueeotto, Nikon Italy, La Stampa Newspaper, and Major Co. sponsored the Donald Miralle 2.8 Workshop, the first hands-on sports photography workshop of it’s kind in the country.

A competitive swimmer through college, Miralle loves to surf and is an elite paddleboarder with podium finishes in the 32-Mile Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race, The Molokai World Championships, and is the two-time overall winner at the Jay Moriarty Race and the Waterman Challenge, holding the course record. He lives in the San Diego beach community of Leucadia with his wife Luaren, his two sons Luke and Micah, and their dogs Odie, Frank, and Stewie.
